A young woman is the second suspect in custody after three were injured in a shooting recently.

DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18-year-old Alexa Avilez Tuesday for attempted murder in a shooting that took place last Saturday near SW Hillsborough Avenue in DeSoto County.

According to the DCSO Facebook post, after continued investigation, probable cause was found, and detectives arrested Avilez on four counts of attempted murder.

Suspect Victor Cervantes, 17, was previously arrested for shooting the three known victims in the car. Investigators says he pulled up next to them in a vehicle and began shooting into theirs, wounding all three occupants. The sheriff’s office said, at the time of Cervantes’ arrest, the shooting appeared to be an isolated and retaliatory incident between feuding teens.

It’s unclear why Avilez faces four counts of attempted murder at this time.

Avilez is currently being held in DeSoto County Jail without bond. Cervantes was transferred to a facility in Manatee County and does not have a mugshot available.

“Let it be clear this violence will not be tolerated in DeSoto County,” the sheriff’s office shared in its recent post.

There is no further information at this time.

This is a developing story.
