An East Naples man is facing several charges after deputies say he led them on a high-speed chase and had drugs and a weapon in his car.

A Collier County sheriff’s deputy was on a traffic stop early Saturday when a Ford Mustang passed by at a high rate of speed, according to the CCSO report. The deputy left the traffic stop and attempted to catch the Mustang, which accelerated and ran through a red light at US-41 and Lakewood Boulevard, where other cars were present.

The deputy said before the Mustang exceeded his radar’s range, it was clocked at 147 mph as it continued on US-41. An aviation unit joined the hunt after the deputy lost sight of the Mustang, which was tracked along several roads in East Naples by aviation and other deputies.

The Mustang eventually stopped at an apartment complex on Gulfstream Drive and the driver got out and took off running. Aviation tracked him to an apartment doorway and deputies on the ground took him into custody.

He was identified as Agustin Jaime Obregon, 22. During a search, deputies found two baggies of fentanyl and cocaine on Obregon, according to the report, and inside his car, they found a Glock 19X pistol with 10 rounds in its magazine, more fentanyl and cocaine, marijuana, synthetic cannabis, and drug paraphernalia.

Obregon was arrested and taken to the Collier County Jail, where he was later released on bond.

He faces charges of high speed/reckless fleeing to elude law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance, possession of synthetic cannabis, possession of marijuana, resisting law enforcement without violence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was also given several traffic citations that include speeding, careless driving and failure to yield.
