UPDATE, July 14, 2021: Police said Wednesday they have located the dark-colored SUV they were looking for in connection to this case. No further information was released.

Fort Myers police are still looking for suspects in early Sunday’s fatal shooting of a 26-year-old father of three.

Police were called to the Maple Crest apartment complex on Crestwood Lake Avenue at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday, and say the shooting happened in the parking lot.

The victim, Desmond Devante Crawford, was a 26-year-old father of three, according to neighbors, who said shootings at their complex are very common.

A family member of Crawford’s said they just celebrated his daughter’s first birthday on Saturday.

Police had a person of interest detained but that person was released at the scene Sunday morning.

Investigators are looking for surveillance cameras and witnesses, FMPD said. The department on Monday released three images of an SUV they say was likely involved in the shooting. The images show a dark-colored SUV in the area of Fowler and Hanson streets.

Anyone who recognizes the vehicle or has any knowledge of the shooting is asked to call the Fort Myers Police Department at 239-321-7700.
