Fiery hit-and-run crash at a RaceTrac gas station in Lehigh Acres

A man is accused of crashing his car into a fuel pump at a gas station before it burst into flames.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect went into a RaceTrac gas station on Lee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres around midnight Monday morning.

After getting into his red Kia Forte, the suspect drove erratically in the parking lot, then smashed right into a pump, deputies say.

The pump burst into flames.

The suspect then backed up and left, leaving behind an active fire and a destroyed gas pump.

On Monday night, the gas pump still lay on the ground and other pumps were blocked off with caution tape.

Those who came to that same RaceTrac to get gas on Monday were shocked to see what had happened.

“His license came in a cereal box,” said Gator Jay.

“Wow…Was he trying to do donuts or something?” said Bryan Sanchez.

“Yoooo that’s crazy,” said Dlo Stevens. “He did a whole circle and slammed it!”

They’re all happy that no one was hurt but it is scary knowing that man is still out on Southwest Florida’s roads.

“Seatbelt alert!” said Stevens.

LCSO is searching for the suspect and added the vehicle in question likely has considerable damage and burn marks.

If you know this man or recognize the red Kia Forte, call the non-emergency line at 239-477-1000 or SWFL Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
