Tuesday’s Coronavirus Updates: 9,068 new cases and 99 new deaths reported

As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, there have been 2,134,914 positive cases of the coronavirus recorded in the state. The case count includes 2,094,670 Florida residents and 40,244 non-Florida residents. There are 34,120 Florida resident deaths reported, 664 non-resident deaths, and 87,287 hospitalizations at some point during illness, according to the Florida Department of Health.

Total number of recorded cases: 2,134,914 (up from 2,125,846)
Florida resident deaths: 34,120 (up from 34,056)
Non-resident deaths: 664 (no change)
Total deaths in state (Fla./non-Fla. residents combined): 34,784 (up from 34,720)

  • This percent is the number of people who test PCR- or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive.

Total recorded cases in SWFL: 120,903 (up from 120,304)
Deaths: 2,025 (up from 2,021)

• 599 total new cases reported Tuesday
• 6 new deaths reported, 2 removed Tuesday

Lee County: 65,317 cases (up from 64,922) – 938 deaths (5 new deaths)
Collier County: 33,782 (up from 33,654) – 504 deaths (2 removed)
Charlotte County: 12,138 (up from 12,085) – 400 deaths (1 new)
DeSoto County: 4,178 (up from 4,169) – 87 deaths
Glades County: 933 (up from 931) – 19 deaths
Hendry County: 4,555 (up from 4,543) – 77 deaths

TESTING DATA

Effective Oct. 27, the Florida Department of Health ceased releasing data showing overall testing numbers. Their statement: “The Florida Department of Health is making adjustments to the COVID-19 dashboard and daily report to provide clear, accurate information for Florida families. Moving forward, the daily report will focus on the number of tests reported to the state by day and the corresponding positivity rate by day. The previously reported cumulative number did not reflect the current status of the pandemic in Florida. This change is in line with the CDC recommendation that calculation of percent positivity [is] applied consistently and with clear communication, will allow public health officials to follow magnitude and trends effectively, and the trends will be useful for local public health decision making.”
