Gov. Ron DeSantis held a press conference in which provided updates regarding Piney Point and the FDA and CDC’s recommendation to pause use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. DeSantis announced that he has directed the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to formulate plans for the permanent closure of Piney Point. In answer to a question from WINK News reporter Sydney Persing, DeSantis said he “respects” the decision by government health agencies to recommend pausing use of the vaccine, but made no announcement regarding Florida’s use of the Johnson & Johnson shot.
