Deputies have arrested a student for a fire that caused an evacuation at Lemon Bay High School in Englewood on Tuesday.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said they were not naming the child due to their age.

The State Fire Marshal determined the fire started as a result of arson, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

School video surveillance assisted investigators in finding the culprit.

The child faces two charges including arson of a dwelling or structure where people are present and interfering with the administration of an education institution.

The fire, which started in the bathroom, caused several hallways to fill with thick black smoke, the sheriff’s office said.

The school resource officer alerted dispatch to the fire which promptly dispatched the Englewood Fire Department.

No one was injured.
