A Collier County woman was arrested Sunday after being accused of throwing hot oil in an elderly man’s face.

The sheriff’s office said Monday that deputies responded to a home on Sholtz Street in Naples Manor, where they met with a man who told them Ania Brave, 37, had grabbed a pot of oil off the stove and threw it on him.

The victim said he came home with food for Brave and another woman, and when he walked into the kitchen, he smelled hot oil coming from a metal pot. He said it was boiling and told Brave to turn off the stove due to the fact that she doesn’t cook. He then began to eat his food with the other woman, and Brave turned off the stove before leaving the room.

She returned several minutes later, grabbed the pot of oil and threw it on him. The victim said he felt immediate pain to his facial area, which he attempted to treat with cold water and toothpaste. He called CCSO after treating his injuries.

The woman confirmed the victim’s story to deputies and said she was scared and didn’t know what to do, further stating that after Brave threw the oil, Brave stood still and looked “confused.”

Brave later told investigators that the situation had nothing to do with her mental state and that being depressed had nothing to do with wanting to hurt the victim. When asked to clarify, she refused to answer, but she told them the victim wasn’t hitting her or yelling at her at the time. She called him a “good man.”

Brave remains in the Collier County jail on a charge of aggravated battery on a person 65 or older.
