An Arcadia woman called 911 on Friday and told the dispatcher she killed her husband and she believed she was insane.

Joni Truman, 38, is being held without bail in the DeSoto County Jail on one count of first-degree murder – premeditated.

The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office arrest report states Truman called 911 and when asked what her emergency was, said, “Yes, ma’am, I just killed my husband.” She told the dispatcher she used a “9mm pistol” and killed her husband because “I believe I am insane.”

Deputies went to Truman’s home on Hollingsworth Street and found two women standing outside, one of them being Truman, who told the deputy she was who he was looking for. She was then arrested and taken to the DCSO interview room.

Her husband, Gregory Truman, was found in the doorway of their apartment. He had been shot multiple times in the head.

Truman told detectives that she and her husband were on their way back from Sarasota earlier in the day and she made the decision to kill him because he refused to grant her a divorce and was controlling her life.

She said when she got the gun and went after him, he lunged at her and attempted to prevent her from shooting him, at which time she fired “four or five times” at him.
