With spring break and snowbirds in town ahead of the Easter holiday, Marco Island was busy Friday. It’s a big contrast from last year at this time when the beach was bare.

We saw people all over the streets, and it took us 20 minutes to find a spot to park at the beach.

Some of the hotels told us they’re booked with spring breakers or families for the Easter weekend.

Some local businesses on Marco say they’re thankful they’ve had a good number of customers over the last month, mostly people who drove from other parts of Florida.

“The wait at restaurants is really long so I feel like it’s really busy,” Kylie BrodKrob said.

“Were looking for a place to get a reservation for Easter, and it was really tough,” Jim Pitocco said. “I thought everyone would be home for Easter, home, home, if they lived in the Northeast or West, but a lot of people are down here.”

Although it’s a very busy this weekend here, for Collier County at large, tourism is still fighting to recover from the pandemic.

In the latest data the tourism bureau showed from February, visitors and hotel bookings are still down around 20% from previous years.
