Showers and storms expected Thursday along a cold front

Published: Updated:

Happy Thursday, Southwest Florida! The Weather Authority has been tracking pockets of heavy rain, mainly south of the Caloosahatchee this morning.

This is prefrontal rain as we have multiple rounds expected throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

Later today, sunshine peeking through the clouds will allow for minor instability. This is expected to force a few thunderstorms to develop along with the rain.

Although storms are possible locally, the severe weather stays to our east, as the Storm Prediction Center calls for a marginal threat near West Palm Beach and Miami.

Besides the rain, a secondary headline this afternoon will be the wind as we become breezy. This will increase wave heights from now into the weekend.

This wind has prompted a Small Craft Advisory and High Rip Current Risk to be issued through Friday at 2 p.m.

There’s a high probability these will be expanded further into the weekend. Stay safe!
