A 74-year-old North Port man was arrested early Thursday after police said he stabbed another man several times during a domestic disturbance.

William Arthur Byron faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Medics and police were called Wednesday night to a home in the 6700 block of Neighborly Court and found a man with multiple stab wounds. He was airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where police said he was listed in stable condition Thursday morning.

The arrest affidavit states the male victim intervened when Byron struck a woman inside the home, and Byron then stabbed the male victim. The woman told police Byron also threatened both of them with a gun.

Police said a large military-style knife and a handgun were found inside the home.

Byron remains in the Sarasota County Jail. Bail has not been set.
