A man was killed during a shooting in Cape Coral on Tuesday night.

The Cape Coral Police Department spent about 12 hours investigating the shooting scene at a home in the 900 block of SE 16 Place on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday afternoon, police announced 28-year-old Melson Leyva died after being transported to a hospital.

Police have not announced whether they have any suspects or arrests in the case.

Neighbors said they saw a girl crying outside.

“She told me that someone had been shot,” said neighbor Gary Corrigan.

Police confirmed what Corrigan said.

Officers guarded the home and the Forensic Unit searched for evidence overnight and into early Wednesday morning.

Angela Muhler said she noticed at least five or six police cars at the home on Tuesday night.

“It seemed to quiet down, but it was unexpected to still see things going on in the morning,” said Muhler, a neighbor.

Despite the violent shooting, police said there is no danger to the neighborhood.

“I feel safe if law enforcement says it’s OK,” Muhler said.
