The sheriff’s office said a deputy on SR-31 attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Angie Birkholz, who had warrants out for her arrest, but she kept driving, heading through some fields and damaging the vehicle. She and her passenger, Sergio Ramirez, then ditched the car and ran in separate directions. Deputies said Ramirez attempted to hide underneath a trailer but was caught, while Birkholz scaled a tree and hid out in a treehouse. She was found still clinging to her purse, which contained methamphetamine, scales, baggies and a meth pipe, DCSO said. Aside from her outstanding warrants, Birkholz, 37 and of Port Charlotte, now faces charges for fleeing to elude law enforcement, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while her license is suspended and violation of probation. She is being held without bond at the DeSoto County Jail. Ramirez is facing charges of resisting arrest and fleeing to elude. His booking information is not yet available.
