Sunday’s Coronavirus Updates: 3,987 new cases, 29 new deaths reported

As of 2 p.m. Sunday, there have been 2,008,349 positive cases of the coronavirus recorded in the state. The case count includes 1,971,271 Florida residents and 37,078 non-Florida residents. There are 32,742 Florida resident deaths reported, 627 non-resident deaths, and 83,446 hospitalizations at some point during illness, according to the Florida Department of Health.

Total number of recorded cases: 2,008,349 (up from 2,004,362)
Florida resident deaths: 32,742 (up from 32,713)
Non-resident deaths: 627 (up from 624)
Total deaths in state (Fla./non-Fla. residents combined): 33,369 (up from 33,337)

  • This percent is the number of people who test PCR- or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive.

Total recorded cases in SWFL: 113,165 (up from 112,937)
Deaths: 1,960 (up from 1,958)

Lee County: 60,914 cases (up from 60,772) – 906 deaths
Collier County: 31,736 (up from 31,697) – 490 deaths
Charlotte County: 11,187 (up from 11,155) – 389 deaths (1 new)
DeSoto County: 3,984 (up from 3,976) – 79 deaths
Glades County: 919 (unchanged) – 19 deaths
Hendry County: 4,425 (up from 4,418) – 77 deaths (1 new)

TESTING DATA

Effective Oct. 27, the Florida Department of Health ceased releasing data showing overall testing numbers. Their statement: “The Florida Department of Health is making adjustments to the COVID-19 dashboard and daily report to provide clear, accurate information for Florida families. Moving forward, the daily report will focus on the number of tests reported to the state by day and the corresponding positivity rate by day. The previously reported cumulative number did not reflect the current status of the pandemic in Florida. This change is in line with the CDC recommendation that calculation of percent positivity [is] applied consistently and with clear communication, will allow public health officials to follow magnitude and trends effectively, and the trends will be useful for local public health decision making.”
