A Collier County deputy patrol car is behind yellow crime scene tape the night of a deadly shooting at Rusty’s Raw Bar and Grill in North Naples that killed a man Friday, March, 12, 2021.

A man who had a front-row seat to a deadly shooting is speaking.

Last Friday, a man was shot and killed after a fight inside Rusty’s Raw Bar and Grill in North Naples, sending everyone there into a mass panic.

DJ Adam Williamson told us he saw it.

When everyone at the bar heard a gunshot, that’s when Williamson says people raced out of the bar into the parking lot. He said he was in the back of the building setting up DJ equipment. Suddenly, he was scared for his life.

Williamson told us he threw his equipment off his table, flipped it over and hid behind it. It was a big crowd at around 9:30 p.m. when bullets started flying.

Deputies say suspect Jason Ortiz, 29, and the male victim got into an argument. The victim was killed, and another man who tried to break up the fight got hurt.

Williamson told us what impressed him was how many people tried to intervene.

“This guy I was talking to, who was in the bar afterwards, immediately leaped into action and actually disarmed the one guy. The guy that was shooting the other guy disarmed him. And then the guy on the ground who got shot pretty bad,” Williamson said. There, I think, were two to three other people that had like an EMS background, and they immediately tried to help him. So then the other shooter tried to flee out the front door. And people … in the front saw him and grabbed him … There were like a lot of heroes in that building apparently. As messed up as the situation was, I feel like it could have been way worse.”

The manager of Rusty’s told us he has no comment.

Ortiz is behind bars and faces second-degree murder charges. His bond is set at $200,000.
