A new version of the year-old mask debate has come to the surface. Those who are fully vaccinated are ready to leave the masks behind. But the question is: can they?

A customer’s fight at Costco in South Fort Myers over masks was caught on camera. He wants to know what the point of getting the vaccine was if he still has to wear a mask?

Every store has its own set of rules so, it depends on where you go if you have to wear a mask. But, many of the large retailers are still requiring masks upon entry.

“If you have the vaccine you shouldn’t have to wear a mask.”

This video shows one customer ask another customer to put on a mask. The man’s argument is that he shouldn’t have to put a mask on because he’s fully vaccinated. Eventually, he does put on a face shield.

“Company policy, company policy. Then you know what don’t shop here.”

The CDC released new recommendations stating that fully vaccinated people can gather with other vaccinated people indoors without masks.

But, inside stores like Costco, Target and Home Depot they have rules and if you shop there you have to mask up.

Javi Santos lives in Fort Myers. “Yeah If you want to continue to shop there if that’s the rule, find somewhere else to shop am I right?” he said.

Daine Gill is here from New Hampshire. “I don’t think it’s that big of a deal to wear a mask,” Gill said.

Jim Bina is here from Minneapolis. “It’s not a big deal to wear a mask,” Bina said.

Gill says she’s been vaccinated but still wears her mask. She says he’s also been in a similar situation to the one capture on video at Costco.

“I actually said to a man, ‘mask.. where’s your mask?’ and he just ignored me.” Gill said.

Ron Thompson says he sees both sides. “That’s not wrong either, right? The people who are vaccinated are vaccinated so why would they have to wear a mask? but it is everybody else to worry about it,” Thompson said.

Even though stores do have mask rules, Gill says she expects more videos like this one to pop up.

“I don’t see them stepping up. I think it comes from leadership,” she said.

Going off of the CDC’s latest recommendations for fully vaccinated individuals, they say, you should still take precautions. They are still learning how well COVID-19 vaccines keep people from spreading the virus.
