Bicyclist seriously injured in Port Charlotte hit and run

A bicyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Port Charlotte Tuesday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 66-year-old Port Charlotte man on a bicycle was traveling north in the left turn lane on US-41, approaching Elkcam Boulevard around 7:45 p.m. An unknown vehicle was traveling the same way when it struck the bicyclist from behind.

The vehicle fled in an unknown direction. The bicyclist was transported to a local area hospital. His condition wasn’t known Wednesday morning.
