Spring training begins Sunday in Lee County for the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins, which means there will be more traffic on some roads around their stadiums.

Even though both teams are selling tickets at limited capacity this year, traffic jams are expected, especially when both teams are at home on the same day, as the stadiums are only about six miles apart.

JetBlue Park at Fenway South, home of the Red Sox, is on Daniels Parkway, near Southwest Florida International Airport, and Hammond Stadium at CenturyLink Sports Complex, where the Twins play, is down the road on Six Mile Cypress Parkway, just west of Daniels.

The three dates the two teams will be playing at the same time are Friday, March 12; Tuesday, March 16; and Tuesday, March 30.

The teams play each other on Sunday to kick off training. The game is at 1:05 p.m. at Hammond Stadium. A limited number of tickets remain.

Also in Southwest Florida, the Atlanta Braves finally get to make use of their new stadium – CoolToday Park in North Port – on Tuesday against the Twins. The Braves will play the Red Sox on Monday at JetBlue Park.

In Port Charlotte, the Tampa Bay Rays, the defending AL champs, open at home Sunday against the Braves at Charlotte Sports Park on El Jobean Road.
