Gov. Ron DeSantis holds a press conference in Brooksville, Fla.

Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference in a Brooksville community to discuss vaccine distribution.

The conference was held at the High Point Community, a 55+ golfing community, where seniors were getting vaccinated.

DeSantis said a third of the vaccine allotments were going to members outside of the golfing community to seniors in Hernando County. DeSantis has suffered some backlash for hosting the vaccination drives in predominantly white affluent communities.

The vaccine shipments delayed due to weather have now arrived in Florida, DeSantis said, adding that the scheduled allotments for this week are also in the Sunshine State.

DeSantis said he believes that Florida has vaccinated 50% of its senior population, but due to reporting delays, it was not evident yet.

About 50,000 shots have been deployed to Houses of Worship to target predominantly Black communities, DeSantis said.
