On Monday, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Army recruiter charged with sexual battering a 17-year-old Sarasota teen.

An investigation began in December when the Sarasota County Schools Police Department was told of an incident involving the school’s Army recruiter, 36-year-old Lloyd Duyan of Carlton Inlet Drive in Bradenton. The victim told a friend that Duyan sexually battered her in late August 2020. The victim’s friend alerted the school resource officer, and further investigation determined the incident took place off-campus.

The SCSPD notified the SCSO, which launched its own investigation. Detectives interviewed Duyan, who admitted to having sex with the 17-year-old. Duyan was arrested Monday and has been charged with a single count of sexual battery. He is being held without bond.

The investigation also identified a 15-year-old student who Duyan is suspected of molesting at his Bradenton home. Detectives are working closely with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and believe there may be additional victims.
