Fort Myers Police Department said Tuesday a joint arrest was made in Fort Myers of a former police officer from out of state for possession of child porn. This suspect never served with FMPD and has no affiliation with the police department.

Former policeman George Joseph Gartner was brought into custody after FMPD and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security searched a residence off Camarelle Circle, and investigators found probable cause to make an arrest.

FMPD says it received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in reference to possession of child porn. They were able to secure and execute a search warrant at the home where Gartner was arrested.

Gartner faces charges for possession of child porn and is currently in custody at Lee County Jail. Bail has been set at $50,000.

Because Gartner is a former law enforcement officer, a booking mugshot of him will not be made available by Lee County Jail.
