Driver killed, passenger critically injured in Collier County crash Monday morning

A driver was killed and his passenger critically injured after their car crashed in Collier County early Monday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, their SUV was southbound around 2:45 a.m. on Everglades Boulevard, north of 24th Avenue Southeast in Golden Gate Estates, when it traveled off the roadway to the right, went airborne and collided with a tree. The vehicle came to rest on a grass area west of Everglades Boulevard and became engulfed in flames.

The male driver and female passenger have not yet been identified. The crash remains under investigation.
