Tuesday, a woman says a gun was pulled on her over a parking spot at a busy area in Cape Coral

Cape Coral Police Department is trying to determine if what she says happened is criminal.

A busy strip mall parking lot along Santa Barbara Boulevard is no stranger to frustrated drivers.

“It’s insane how bad the parking is,” Nicholas Moore said. “Minimum 15 minutes to find a parking spot.”

When we spoke to Moore, we watched as a driver had issues making a tight turn. We also heard cars honk at each other

“People get very feisty because they’re all trying to wait for spots and then it backs up onto Santa Barbara,” Jessica Gallagher said.

A heated exchange over a parking spot went to another level. Police say a woman was sitting in her parked car and another woman got tired of waiting.

According to a police report, investigators say a driver started to yell at the woman to give up her parking place and then flashed a gun.

Gallagher works at the strip mall.

“We were working and saw, all of a sudden, there were a bunch of cops,” Gallagher said. “And they were all standing at that parking spot there, and there was a woman that seemed very upset, and they were there for, it had to be, at least two hours.”

Learning more about that day was unsettling for Gallagher.

“My first instinct was that, I mean, I was scared for that person, but you know we’re all glass front windows on our properties, so it’s very scary to think of someone getting that upset, and you just don’t know,” Gallagher said.

Surveillance cameras recorded the confrontation. Police asked the medical marijuana shop in the plaza for the video, but it declined, citing medical privacy laws.

CCPD says its detectives need that surveillance video to verify the woman’s story, so CCPD plans to ask a judge for a subpoena.

“To pull a gun on someone over a parking spot is just insane,” Moore said. “I can’t I can’t imagine the kind of person that would want to do that.”
