A dentist hopes to help you make ends meet while getting a little healthier.

Dr. William Truax, D.D.S., president of Project Dentists Care, works with families in poverty to try and turn their lives around by giving them a free smile.

Project Dentists Care is funded through the United Way, the Florida Department of Health-Lee County, and private donors.

In 2020, Truax helped around 1,900 patients. He says nothing beats the feeling of seeing people love their smile for the first time.

“It’s an ear to ear smile, some of these people have never had a pretty smile,” Truax said. “All of a sudden they can smile, they’re not missing front teeth, they can eat, and they can talk properly and they’re employable. It’s a good feeling. It’s something that makes me feel good.”

You’re eligible to see Truax if your income is under $24,000 a year or if you’re living off Social Security. He hopes more doctors come forward to help change a person’s life.

The number for Project Dentists Care is (239) 561-1949.
