Investigators say DNA connects the dots between a sexual assault on an elderly woman and an attempt on a young girl that happened hours apart.

Fort Myers Police Department named Kevin Agenord, 25, as the suspect of a home invasion and sexual assault the day the attacks took place in Fort Myers in May 2020.

Both crimes led to a manhunt across the City of Fort Myers after the brother of a little girl chased the suspect out of their home and then called police with a description.

We spoke to FMPD Sgt. Glenn Thompson Thursday who was able to find the evidence connecting suspect Agenord with the two crimes to build a case.

“We knew he was no longer a threat to the community, so we really wanted to present, as you put it, undeniable evidence,” Thompson told WINK News.

Investigators believed Agenord was the man who sexually assaulted a woman at the Sandpiper Run senior community complex the same day he exposed himself to a young girl at her home, but they couldn’t prove it until now.

“DNA is just that. When you come back to one in one billion or one in a trillion chances that it’s not, it’s just a slam-dunk case,” Thompson said. “It’s irrefutable.”

Thompson told us DNA from a piece of clothing connected the scenes officially. He could not provide any further details because Agenord must still go to trial.

Details from the arrest report show Agenord knocked on numerous doors at the senior complex before he came on a door that was left unlocked. The victim told police she went to throw her trash away and did not lock the door.

She returned to the home to use the bathroom when she was ambushed by Agenord who assaulted the woman.

Agenord fled after the life-alert on her necklace went off and she was able to scream for help.

Agenord remains in Lee County Jail. His arrest page lists him as homeless. He faces several charges for both crimes totaling a $275,000 bond.
