The Charlotte County Fair is returning but with a few changes to adapt to the pandemic.

The fair has nixed indoor shows and will have hand sanitizing stations available for visitors.

“We know it’s been tough because of the COVID,” said John Mahshie, board treasurer of the Charlotte County Fair Association.

“What we’re doing is we’re following all of the CDC guidelines,” Mahshie said. “We’re going to strictly be an outdoor event.

Mahshie said they closed the buildings they usually use so that people won’t end up together in confined spaces.

“We made all the walkways a little bit wider so that people aren’t so close together,” he said, adding that they “put a barrier up between the animals and guests so there’s no contact.”

Vendors are also expected to wear masks. And there is spaced out seating for outdoor shows.

“We’re asking you to wear a mask and to do social distancing,” Mahshie said. “If you’re not feeling comfortable then you shouldn’t come, if you’re not feeling well then please don’t come.”

Mahshie’s hope is that everyone has a good time.

The fair runs from Friday, Jan. 29 to Sunday, Feb. 7. Gate Admission costs $7 for adults and $5 for students. Children ages 5 and under enter for free. Parking costs $5.
