21-year-old arrested for roadway shooting that killed 1, injured 1 in south Fort Myers

Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested suspect Derrick Lamar Massey, 21, for a deadly shooting that killed one person and injured another in south Fort Myers near Canterbury School recently.

According to LCSO, investigators say they learned Massey shot into a victim’s vehicle while driving home from the Viva le Mirage club on Winkler Road. Two people were shot. Both were taken to the hospital, and one victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The sheriff’s office originally confirmed Jan. 9 deputies responded to the shooting in the area of 8211 College Parkway, which is near the school.

Massey faces charges for second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Massey is in the process of being booked into Lee County Jail.
