Family moves out of East Naples apartment complex after shots fired at home

Investigators are searching for suspects who shot at an apartment recently while a family was home.

Wednesday Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of shots fired at an apartment complex on Santa Clara Drive in East Naples.

The family who lived at one of the apartments was very scared when shots went through a sliding glass door at their home.

I was sitting inside talking to my roommate, and I heard bam, bam, bam real fast,” Neighbor Phil Mann said. “It sounded like fireworks.”

Mann said he was also home when the shots rang.

“I walk outside to take the dogs out and see five cops out here with police tape,” Mann said.

Our crew visited the complex Friday, where the family had boarded up the slider, packed up and moved out of the complex.

According to a CCSO report, the family heard six gunshots around 7 p.m. the night shots were fired. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Mann says he spoke to the family who survived the gunshots Thursday morning.

“They were very scared, so they moved out,” Mann said. “Took them one day to move out.”

They are not the only ones who don’t feel safe in the neighborhood after shots were fired. Tessa River says they are counting the days until they can move.

“Our lease is up in April, so we will be moving,” River said. “I do not like the area.”

Investigators say a witness saw four men in black hoodies get out of a car, and one of them had a shot gun.

The family reportedly hid in the bathroom as they called 911 after shots went through their home.
