Credit: WINK News. The new and improved Alico Road opened Thursday. The Alico Road widening project expanded the road to four lanes from Ben Hill Griffin Parkway to Airport Haul Road to the east. Gulf Coast Town Center is usually packed with shoppers and that traffic adds up and funnels down to two lanes, but this new expansion project should help alleviate some of that buildup. The expansion also includes two new bike lanes, two shared-use paths, and signal improvements at the intersection of Alico Rd. and Ben Hill Griffin Pkwy. Drainage was also improved in the area. The $18 million project was finished six months early.
