Head coach Barry Bowman. Photo Credit: Aryanna Sando Cape Coral High School named Barry Bowman as the new head varsity football coach of the Seahawks Monday. It’s a promotion from his previous role as the team’s defensive coordinator. Bowman, a former high school football coach in Texas, has more than 30 years of coaching experience with a record of success, as well as personal experience playing college football and making it to the NFL. According to The School District of Lee County press release, Bowman compiled a 107-41 record as a head coach in Texas, which included a 26-6 playoff record and three state championships. Bowman earned 17 different coach of the year awards as a result of the success with his teams and was recently named to the Top 10 All-Time Coaches in East Texas by the Texas High School Coaches Association. As a player, Bowman played Division I football at Louisiana Tech University and went on to play for the Rams and Seahawks in the NFL. As defensive coordinator for Cape Cora High School, he led a unit that allowed only 206 yards per game during the past season. “Coach Bowman is a great addition to the Seahawk family” said CCHS Principal Christian Englehart in the press release.
