Black Friday – like other popular traditions – is seeing a big change in 2020. There will likely be fewer shoppers out at brick-and-mortar stores. Many plan to stay at home to stay away from crowds and avoid the spread of the coronavirus, but that’s not the case for everyone.

We visited Miromar Outlets in Estero Wednesday, where some shoppers said they might still take advantage of Black Friday deals in person.

Black Friday crowds on an average year can still be something people don’t want to be a part of at all.

“Something that we typically avoid,” Aaron Black said.

Everett Cook plans to join in on the in-store deals Friday.

“It’s festive, and it’s fun, and there’s usually good deals,” Cook said.

Miromar Outlets is one of many places in the area with Black Friday deals. Officials there say it has been pretty busy.

“It’s a good time to buy things for my daughters,” Cook said.

Buying gifts can become expensive, so Cook decided to scout out the best deals ahead of the retail holiday.

“There’s a couple of places that I want to go for Black Friday,” Cook said.

You won’t find Black and his wife out shopping Friday.

“The crowds, and we do most of our shopping online,” Black said.

For those who want to get out and do some shopping Miromar Outlets is open until 9 p.m. Wednesday, closed Thursday for Thanksgiving and back open 6 a.m. Friday for Black Friday.

If you do plan to shop in person, things will look different this year. Black is happy about safety precautions that are being taken at outlets.

“It doesn’t seem too crowded, and there’s hand sanitizer,” Black said. “So those things make you feel pretty safe. Most people are wearing masks.”
