Collier County deputies said they weren’t sure what they’d find Friday morning when they responded to a call from a McDonald’s employee.

Just after 10 a.m., an employee called the sheriff’s office to report that an older gentleman had passed her a handwritten note.

The note read, “Call the police, I need to speak with an officer.”

The employee called on behalf of the man, thinking he might have trouble hearing or speaking.

When Cpl. Brian DiSarro arrived at the scene he learned that the man was homeless and that he wanted to speak to a deputy because the holes in his shoes had caused painful injuries to his feet.

An hour later, Cpl. DiSarro made sure he had not just new shoes, but fresh socks and a new shirt as well.

CCSO said, “We never know what kind of call we’re going to get here, but we do our best to help.”
