A suspect in the Nov. 9 Englewood home invasion which left two people dead is now in custody, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

The CCSO says the incident began as a targeted home invasion burglary in which suspects Bradley Scheuerer, 31, currently in custody, and now-deceased Jonathon Robinson, 27, entered the victim’s home to steal equipment used to manufacture marijuana wax (also known as DAB or BHO, butane hash oil), a highly concentrated form of THC. Scheuerer was a known acquaintance of the victim, with whom he’d recently had a falling out over the sale of the substance, and was recently described as acting erratic.

According to CCSO interviews, a woman inside the home was lying on the couch when Robinson stood over her and said they were there to rob them, not hurt them. A man in the master bedroom heard the noise and emerged to fight with the suspect. The fight left both Robinson and the victim severely wounded.

Scheuerer was witnessed near the home before escaping the area in a rental van, leaving Robinson behind.

Deputies responding to a 911 call arrived to find the bodies of both the victim and suspect Jonathon Robinson.

Detectives were able to identify the rental van captured on neighborhood surveillance footage at the time of the crime as the one rented by the suspects out of St. Petersburg, where both lived. The van was meant to haul the equipment the two had intended to steal.

Scheuerer was arrested Friday by the St. Petersburg Police Department on charges of attempted armed robbery and burglary battery. He remains in the Pinellas County Jail.

The investigation is still active. The sheriff’s office said there may be further charges and other people involved.

The name of the victim will not be released due to Marsy’s Law.
