It was a scary ride to school for some children in Southwest Florida after their bus driver went unconscious behind the wheel. Luckily, the driver was able to pull over right before it happened.

A Lee County bus driver was taking students to North Fort Myers Academy of the Arts when she passed out at the wheel on Pine Island Road near US-41 Tuesday morning.

The School District of Lee Count told us its driver did everything right to keep her students safe.

Students watched as their school bus driver made an emergency stop at the intersection with Pine Island and Barrett Road.

The District confirmed the driver felt light headed, pulled the bus over, called it in to dispatch, put on the emergency brake and then passed out.

Lee Count Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene within minutes and made sure the students got to school safely and the driver to the hospital.

A District spokesperson told us Tuesday afternoon the driver was doing much better.
