A driver was arrested at his Punta Gorda home after the Florida Highway Patrol says he committed a hit-and-run Sunday night.

John K. Williams, 65, was traveling south on US-41 around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Edgewater Drive in Charlotte County. A pedestrian, 61, from Venice, was walking west across the southbound lanes of US-41 on the north side of the intersection when Williams’ vehicle struck him.

The pedestrian came to rest in the outside southbound lane of US-41 and was later transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

Williams fled the scene and was later found at his home, where he was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash with injuries. He was still in the Charlotte County Jail as of Monday afternoon.
