Cape Coral woman killed by wrong-way driver in Charlotte County head-on collision

A 21-year-old woman is dead after a driver went the wrong way on US-41, causing a head-on collision in Charlotte County.

According to FHP, a 50-year-old man from Port Charlotte, who is now in critical condition, was driving a pick-up truck northbound in the southbound lanes of US-41 around 10:45 p.m. Friday.

As the driver approached Morningside Drive, he crashed into the front of a car driven by a 21-year-old woman from Cape Coral. There were no passengers in the car and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pick-up truck also hit another vehicle, driven by a 42-year-old woman from Lehigh Acres. She sustained minor injuries.

FHP is investigating the crash and criminal charges are pending.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of those involved in crashes, citing Marsy’s Law.
