Tuesday’s Coronavirus Updates: 4,298 new cases, 56 new deaths reported

As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, there have been 786,311 positive cases of the coronavirus recorded in the state. The case count includes 776,215 Florida residents and 10,096 non-Florida residents. There are 16,505 Florida resident deaths reported, 204 non-resident deaths, and 48,512 hospitalizations at some point during illness, according to the Florida Department of Health.

*Numbers are released by the DOH daily at approximately 11 a.m. but are occasionally delayed.

Total number of recorded cases: 786,311 (up from 782,013)
Florida resident deaths: 16,505 (up from 16,449)
Non-resident deaths: 204 (up from 203)
Total deaths in state (Fla./non-Fla. residents combined): 16,709 (up from 16,652)

• Percent positive for new cases in FL residents: 6.31%
  • This percent is the number of people who test PCR- or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive. 

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA NUMBERS

Total recorded cases in SWFL: 45,356 (up from 45,025)
Deaths: 999 (up from 994)

• 331 total new cases reported Tuesday
• 5 new deaths reported Tuesday

Lee County: 23,058 (up from 22,887) – 509 deaths (3 new)
Collier County: 14,247 (up from 14,135) – 255 deaths (2 new)
Charlotte County: 3,588 (up from 3,553) – 157 deaths
DeSoto County: 1,662 (up from 1,654) – 29 deaths
Glades County: 599 (up from 597) – 6 deaths
Hendry County: 2,202 (up from 2,199) – 43 deaths

TESTING DATA

Effective Oct. 27, the Florida Department of Health ceased releasing data showing overall testing numbers. Their statement: “The Florida Department of Health is making adjustments to the COVID-19 dashboard and daily report to provide clear, accurate information for Florida families. Moving forward, the daily report will focus on the number of tests reported to the state by day and the corresponding positivity rate by day. The previously reported cumulative number did not reflect the current status of the pandemic in Florida. This change is in line with the CDC recommendation that calculation of percent positivity [is] applied consistently and with clear communication, will allow public health officials to follow magnitude and trends effectively, and the trends will be useful for local public health decision making.”
