A passenger was killed and her driver critically injured in a crash on I-75 in Fort Myers Monday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the driver, a 29-year-old man, and the passenger, a 36-year-old woman, both from Arcadia, were traveling north in the inside lane of I-75, half a mile north of SR-80, when the driver failed to slow and rear-ended an SUV that had slowed due to congestion.

The driver of the SUV suffered no injuries.

The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of those involved in crashes, citing Marsy’s Law.
