A Fort Myers man was arrested after deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office say he fled a traffic stop downtown on Sunday.

Around 11:50 p.m., patrol deputies conducted the traffic stop on a vehicle after observing a traffic infraction near the intersection of Oleander Avenue and Palm Beach Boulevard.

According to the deputies, Damian Lorenzo Woolfork, 20, did not possess a valid driver’s license and switched seats with a passenger in the vehicle to pretend he hadn’t been the one driving.

One of the deputies noticed this and asked Woolfork to step out of the vehicle. Woolfork exited and ran away.

Additional deputies from the K-9 unit and aviation responded and found Woolfork near the woods by Oleander Avenue and Cherokee Street. He continued to run but was overcome by K-9 Kilo.

Woolfork was arrested and now faces one charge of operating a motor vehicle without a license, one charge of resisting an officer and two charges of violating probation.
