The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal crash involving a box truck and a motorcycle in Fort Myers. South Trail Fire District on scene. (Credit: STFD) Florida Highway Patrol responded to a deadly motorcycle crash that also involved a box truck in south Fort Myers Monday. According to FHP, state troopers went to the corner of US-41 and Dana Drive, where a 37-year-old male motorcyclist of Bonita Springs was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash. He was listed as not wearing a helmet. A 24-year-old man from Miami, who was driving a box truck, was involved in the crash and had no injuries. State troopers say the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on US-41 in the left lane toward the intersection with Dana Dr. when the box truck was eastbound on Dana Dr. stopped at the intersection with US-41. The motorcycle was moving at a high-rate of speed when the box truck went to turn southbound onto US-41 through the intersection in front of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist tried to brake to avoid a crash; the bike went onto its side; and the rider separate from the bike. Both the rider and the motorcycle hit the left side of the box truck on southbound US-41. There is no listing of possible charges involved in this crash investigation, and no names of those involved are provided in the FHP crash report.
