‘Biden for President’ press conference in Fort Myers focuses on unity

As President Trump visits Southwest Florida, Democrats are making sure seniors know nominee Joe Biden is on their side.

On Friday, Biden for President Florida held a “We Know Joe Will Stand Up for Florida Seniors” news conference at the Lee County Government Building in Fort Myers just a few hours before the president arrived, and the big takeaway was the theme of unity.

Fort Myers mayoral candidate Jacquelyn McMiller said, “It is time to make a change.”

Down the road from where hundreds of people waited to welcome the president, it was
a more intimate, mask-wearing, socially distanced event on the other side of the political aisle. Three people, pleading the case for Southwest Florida to vote for Joe Biden.

Roger Harrison, a friend of Biden, said, “We use the words ’empathy’ but it really doesn’t come close to really measuring the depth of how he relates to others.”

Harrison goes way back with the former vice president.

They went to school together. Harrison also worked on his first campaign for Senate, and then in his Washington DC office

“He encouraged dissent,” Harrison added. “He’d try to understand all sides of issues, and that’s where we need to go today to get to compromise situations.”

Joining Harrison and McMiller was Patricia Pollok, and they say Biden is the better choice for seniors. Especially in this pandemic.

“Biden’s plans include providing free testing, free testing, treatment, and vaccines for everyone, and build on the affordable care act,” McMiller added.

It was a small number but they say they’re secure in their message, that Biden is better than Trump for seniors.
