We spoke to one of the president’s top advisors about why they are focusing on Southwest Florida at the end of the week.

President Donald Trump is expected to be in downtown Fort Myers sometime Friday. There are still not many details, but we continue to piece them together.

Update: Mayor Randy Henderson confirmed President Donald Trump will be at an event at the Caloosa Sound Convention Center downtown Friday, which is connected to the Luminary Hotel.

Campaign adviser Steve Cortes told us you can never be too confident. He says you want to campaign to the point that you win by a clear margin.

Cortes told us Florida is the road to the White House, so they’re not going to ignore any part of the state.

Reporter Morgan Rynor: “When the president comes to my area, Fort Myers, on Friday, what is the message? Why take the time to come here?”

Steve Cortes: “Listen, even in red places like Southwest Florida, it’s still important to drive enthusiasm.”

President Trump’s campaign did not offer any specifics about his Friday visit Wednesday.

The garage across the street from the Luminary Hotel will be closed Friday for an event from noon until 3 p.m.

Fort Myers Police Department told us you’ll want to avoid the area because there will be heavy congestion.
