President Donald Trump is expected to visit downtown Fort Myers Friday, according to a local government official familiar with the plans.

Many people in the region are glad to see Trump is making a recovery from COVID-19 and even happier to see him visit Southwest Florida.

While a local government official familiar with the plans could not give us an exact location, an undecided voter told us he’s glad to see a visit right in our backyard.

Just three weeks away from election day, people in Southwest Florida are learning Trump is making a downtown Fort Myers a stop on the campaign trail.

Many people in the area here are ready to welcome him with open arms.

“Honestly, this is Trump country,” Mackenson Thomte said.

“I think just to be a part of the crowd, cheering him on, giving him a little bit of our support,” Debbie Norman said. “He needs it as far as… we can’t show him enough how much we appreciate what he’s done.”

But Larry Moore, who says he is an undecided voter, told us if either candidate wants his vote, they need to make their rounds.

“It’s good. It means that we are an important area and hopefully that it will make a difference,” Moore said.

Moore hopes the president’s visit will help him make up his mind when he hits the polls on Nov. 3.

“I think it’s great that they are getting out and trying to get their message across and hopefully things will get better for the country and no matter who wins,” Moore said. “That’s all that matters.”

WINK News is working to find out the exact location and time of the visit. It’s likely to be earlier in the day, as Trump is scheduled to be in Ocala at 4 p.m. and in Georgia at 7 p.m.

“Regardless of political party, Democrat or Republican, just go out and vote,” Thimote said. “Your vote still matters.”
