The Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization completed a study in 2017 on intersections throughout the county to determine if roundabouts could improve safety and traffic flow. The roundabout at the Buckingham Road and Gunnery Road intersection was approved as one of the top five sites in the county.

The proposed roundabout will provide “excellent operations, improve safety by reducing serious injury and fatal crashes, and provide better pedestrian accommodations and crosswalk features,” according to the MPO.

The MPO is soliciting public input on the project. Individual, small group and public meetings will eventually take place, the first on Tuesday. Those interested can visit the project’s website to sign up for email updates and see the full details.
