A Lehigh Acres man and a teenager were arrested late Saturday after deputies say they tried to rob a driver on Fort Myers Beach.

The incident happened near the intersection of Avenue E and Estero Boulevard. The victim told Lee County deputies that a truck driving in front of him came to a sudden stop and two male suspects jumped out of its bed, approached his car and demanded he hand over his belongings. The victim forced his driver’s door shut and called for help.

The sheriff’s office said a deputy working an unrelated traffic crash saw the suspects’ vehicle and notified other deputies, who tracked down and arrested the pair.

Charged with robbery are Daniel Morton, 19, and a 17-year-old. WINK News will not name the teen because he is a minor.

Both are still in the Lee County Jail, but jail records show Morton’s $10,000 bond was paid Monday and he is awaiting release.
