The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Port Charlotte man in connection with a fatal shooting outside a Venice bank.

William Tollard, 47, of Warren Avenue was identified by detectives as having walked up to the victim’s Jeep while it was in the first lane of the drive-thru at the 160 Pointe Loop Drive BB&T Bank Monday. He was seen firing a handgun several times at the victim, the car’s only occupant.

When the Jeep moved out of the drive-thru lane into the parking lot, witnesses saw Tollard approach the victim again, firing additional rounds. He then fled in a black pickup truck which was found by deputies unoccupied near the intersection of Princess Lane and Jacaranda Boulevard. A black semi-automatic handgun was on the front passenger seat.

Tollard was found on foot shortly after and taken into custody near Sklar Drive and Jacaranda Boulevard. He and the victim knew each other, but their relationship is protected under Marsy’s Law.

Tollard is charged with a single count of murder. He remains in custody at the Sarasota County Correctional Facility without bond while the investigation continues.
