A woman was severely injured after being struck by a propeller when she fell off a boat Saturday.

FWC says they responded to the incident near Estero Bay just after 3:30 p.m. and found a 26-year-old woman with injuries from a boat propeller.

They say she was standing near the back of the boat when she fell off into the water and was struck by the boat’s propeller. She was then pulled out of the water and brought back to the dock by a good samaritan.

The woman sustained severe injuries to her leg and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. There were 11 other people on board at the time and none of them sustained injuries.

FWC’s Public Infomation Officer Adam Brown said, “This is not something that most people do on a daily basis like driving a car so if you have an opportunity to take a class, learn the rules of the road, so to speak, when it comes to boating you’ll get a lot of safety tips that way and you can become a better boater.”
