One person is dead after a shooting at an RV park in Fort Myers, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

LCSO deputies responded to the Lakes Park RV Park around 7:15 a.m. Saturday in reference to a shooting.

Upon their arrival, they found one person dead.

Neighbors woke up shocked that something like this could happen in their vicinity. “I’m going to be more alert. I’m probably gonna put cameras on the house,” said Priscilla Guiterrez, who lives nearby.

She’s already planning how to better protect herself and her family after waking up to crime scene tape and one dead in her usually quiet neighborhood.

“It’s scary because we’ve never experienced something like this,” Guiterrez added.

Due to the nature of the incident, the LCSO Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation. The forensics unit spent much of the day gathering evidence and taking pictures.

Maureen Mchale lives down the street from where the shooing happened. “My husband thought he heard thunder last night and didn’t know whether it was a dream or was real,” said McHale.

“When I woke up, I saw the police tape and you know them going through pretty thoroughly of the area,” she added.

Deputies will continue to investigate. McHale hopes she gets some answers soon. “I’d love to know what happened you know just to feel a little more secure,” McHale said.

Investigators say this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

LCSO is working with the State Attorney’s Office on this investigation.
