Increasing potential for tropical development in the NW Caribbean

Published: Updated:

A tropical wave over the central Caribbean is expected to move westward over the next few days, where it may develop into a broad area of low pressure by the end of this work week. From there, the National Hurricane Center gives it a 60% chance of tropical cyclone development.

Since this disturbance hasn’t formed yet, there is still significant model discrepancy on not only where it could go, but how strong it could be.

Locally, we are tracking a cold front approaching Southwest Florida by the middle of the work week. However, models are backing off on how far south this front makes it, so the cooldown won’t be as significant. We can still expect a few mornings in the lower 70s and upper 60s with slightly drier air.

As for the rest of today, we’ll see see continued scattered showers & storms continue this evening, with a gradual decrease in coverage tonight. Though, an isolated shower or storm can’t be ruled out overnight. Otherwise, expect warm & muggy conditions tonight with temperatures falling into the 70s.
